MATHIS - A Liberty man, formerly of Lufkin, was killed here Wednesday afternoon when the car he was driving crashed head-on with a Continental bus.

Dead is Eli Jared Gann, 53.

Among Mr. Gann's survivors are his mother, Mrs. R. T. Gann and a sister, Mrs. Hobby Berry, both of Lufkin.

Funeral services for Mr. Gann are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday in the Gipson Funeral Home chapel here, Rev. Lloyd Mottley will officiate and interment will be in the Largent Cemetery.

Five persons were injured in the crash which killed Mr. Gann.

Mr. Gann was born September 25, 1904 in Angelina County and had lived in Liberty for the past three years. He was a member of the Arlinkgton First Christian Church, and was an employee of Dempsey-Henley Oil Properties.

- Son: Jared Gann, Jr.
- Daughters: Mrs. Jessie Brock and Mrs. Wilson Kinsey
