John Oliver Cummins D.D.S. was born October 11, 1892 at Cummins Mill, 9 miles northwest of Cookeville. He received his education in Putnam and Jackson counties and graduated from the Dental department at Vanderbilt University in 1915. He married Miss Willette Hutchison of Putnam October 11, 1916. He began practice in Cookeville in 1915 with offices in the Greenwood Building, Broad Street. He served on the advisory board of 5 counties during the World War and was designated dentist to work for ex-servicemen of Putnam county until the discontinuance of that service in 1933. He is a Mason, Modern Woodman, charter member of the Lions Club, Democrat and a member of the Church of Christ. He's also a member of the ADA and Delta Sigma Delta dental fraternity.
