My maternal great-grandfather, William Stewart was the son of William Stewart and Elizabeth Dunbar, both of whom were born in Ireland. (His youngest son, James Hunter Stewart, was my Mom's father and, thus, my maternal grandfather). William was a retired farmer.

At the time of his death at the age of 89, he was living with my great-aunt, Anna Chew, in Elmer, NJ. He died in New Jersey State Hospital in Trenton. He was survived by two sons, John H. of Westville and George N. of Clementon and two daughters, Anna Chew of Elmer and Eleanor Logan of Aududon. Funeral arrangements were handled by the Wagner Funeral Home in Woodbury, NJ (which is still in business).

According to his funeral records, he was married twice, his first wife being my great-grandmother, Margaret Jane Dunbar Stewart and his second wife Cecelia Marshall Burr Stewart, who he married on November 17, 1901, in Deptford Township.

Great Granddad outlived both wives, but only Margaret Dunbar Stewart, the first Mrs. Stewart, is buried with him. Cecilia Burr Stewart, who died on March 19, 1929 at the age of 84 is interred in New Camden Cemetery in Camden, NJ, in Section A, Lot 323, Grave 3.

There is a possibility that my great-grandparents may have been related (cousins, perhaps) as my great-grandmother and William's mother, Elizabeth, my great-great grandmother, had the same maiden name: Dunbar.
