Young Rev. Tuttle was the son of Col. Joseph Tuttle, an elder of the Hanover church, and his 2nd wife, Abigail Nutman. He married a minister's daughter, Ann Green. Their only child, Benaijah, who predeceased him a few weeks earlier, is buried beside him.
The sandstone stele which marks the graves of father and son has a deeply arched profile, and features a soul effigy of the portrait type embellished with stars and hourglasses, underscoring the brevity of life.
