Ruth Anderson Smith

GODLEY – Ruth Anderson Smith, a dedicated and beloved teacher, died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, in Keene.
Funeral: 11 a.m. Monday at Crosier-Pearson-Mayfield Funeral Home Chapel in Cleburne. Burial: Greenacres Memorial Park in Cleburne. Visitation: 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Ruth Anderson Smith left this world a better place for having been part of it. She was born April 13, 1912, in Burleson. In addition to being a source of strength to her family, she influenced the lives of hundreds of children throughout 39 years of teaching. She began her career in a one-room school, where she started the fire each morning, and also prepared food to cook so the children would have something hot to eat for lunch. She taught elementary grades in Godley for 15 years, and retired in 1972, from the Fort Worth School District after 21 years teaching third grade at Arlington Heights Elementary. She earned her master's degree from Texas Christian University in 1951. She was preceded in death by her husband, A.D. Smith; her parents; her sister; and three brothers.

She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, and friend. She was always generous, pleasant, and willing to share her words of wisdom. Her spirit will always be with us because of the many hearts she touched.

Survivors: Daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Sue and Ron Boulden of Austin; three nieces; and four nephews and their families
