Mrs. Smith (Christine Booth) Johnston, Jr. 38, of Woodstock died last Monday in Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta following a short illness. Mrs. Johnston underwent surgery last October, and a trouble that was at first diagnosed as malignant later spread rapidly and took her life nine months later.
Mrs. Johnston was born April 28, 1918 in Cobb County, the daughter of Rev. E.T. Booth and Mrs. Lucy Gibson Booth. She was a graduate of Canton High and Mercer University. After finishing school, she taught several years at Canton High and later in Marietta. She was a member of the Woodstock Baptist Church and took an active part in the religious and civic life of her community.
March 28, 1946, she married Smith Johnston, Jr., cashier of the Bank of Woodstock and president of the Georgia Poultry Federation.
Surviving in addition to her parents and husband are three children, Lucy Ann, Janice and Smith Johnston, III; and three brothers, William Booth of Woodstock, Harold Booth of Miami Springs, Fla., and Dr. E.T. Booth of New York City.
Funeral services were held at the Woodstock Baptist Church Tuesday at 4 p.m. with Revs. J.W. O. McKibben, Charles Jernigan and John B. Ward officiating. Interment was in Enon Cemetery with Baker Funeral Home in charge.
