Alexander Romaniw, 79, of West Leechburg, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at H.J. Heinz Center at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Aspinwall. He was born April 10, 1930, in West Leechburg, a son of the late Frank and Catherine (Kwasiska) Romaniw. Alexander was a self-employed masonry contractor in the Alle-Kiski Valley area for more than 30 years, retiring in 1985. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Christ the King Parish in Leechburg, the VFW in Leechburg and the Sokol Lodge in Leechburg. He enjoyed playing his accordion, gardening, wine making, picking wild mushrooms, spectator sports, his dogs and especially his grandchildren. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Mary Julia (Duso) Romaniw, who died June 29, 2005; brothers, Stanley, Michael and John Romano and Frank Romaniw; and sisters, Mary Romaniw and Julia Jankowski. Survivors include a son, Eric (Pamela) Romaniw, of West Leechburg; two daughters, Denise (Robert) Jones, of West Leechburg, and Renee (Joseph) Ostrosky, of New Kensington; a brother, Charles Romano, of Freeport; and six grandchildren. Friends will be welcomed by his family from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in CLAWSONS, Leechburg, where Parting Prayers of Transfer will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, followed by a Christian Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Christ the King Parish. Officiating will be his pastor, the Rev. Joseph V. Trupkovich. Interment will follow in St. Catherine Cemetery, Gilpin Township.
