Wife of William Simpson.

Mother of Andrew Hart, John G., William, Alexander, James Edward, and Isobel.

William and Julia and 4 of their sons came from Scotland to America around 1847. Julia was about 55 years old. Arriving at the Port of New Orleans, they settled for one year in Algiers, La., then moved to Sherman, N.Y. They moved to Marengo, Iowa, about 1856.

An interesting family story is that 18 years after Julia died and was buried in Millersburg, Iowa, her husband William passed on. The family arranged for Julia's body to be dug up from Millersburg, and moved to Victor, Iowa, to be buried next to her husband. The State Medical School at Iowa City had been founded but a short time. Her illness was unusual and of short duration. She was sick only a few days. When they opened her coffin, during the move to Victor, nothing was there. Nothing of her body in the coffin was ever found. What happened is anyone's guess.

(Story relayed by Etta Simpson, Granddaughter of William and Julia, to Lorelle Parrott Weidlein, Etta's daughter-in-law.)

Bio by: Judy Glanville, her GG Granddaughter.
