Waterford, CT - Sidney Fisher, 92, lost his gallant fight on March 20, 2009, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London.
Born in Deep River on Dec. 12, 1916, he was the son of the late Stanley and Emma (Churms) Fisher.

He worked as a salesman for area beverage companies, mainly the Canada Dry Beverage Co., in New London; but his main interest in life was the care of his home, garden, and family. He also loved to travel to many parts of the world including New Zealand and Switzerland. Most recently he enjoyed a ten day cruise in January with his wife and two daughters.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Virginia (Coates) Ashley Fisher; his daughters, Dianne Arruda of Norfolk, Va., Janet Grills and her husband, Peter, of Groton, Karen Fisher of Waterford, and step daughter, Marilyn White and her husband, John, of Groton; grandchildren, Esther Repke of Cape Coral, Fla., Dawn Cobb of Virginia Beach, Va., Edward White of Groton, and Jennifer Arruda of Trimble, Mo.; 11 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Audrey Fisher Larson of Yucaipa, Calif.

He was predeceased by three sisters, Wilfreda Merriman, Elsie Olsen, and Doris Smith, and a brother, Stanley Fisher.

Relatives and friends are invited to a graveside memorial service at 11 a.m. Monday, March 23, at Cedar Grove Cemetery, 638 Broad St., New London. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
