Native American Leader and Anthropologist. She was a Lakota Sioux who used storytelling, performance, and books to introduce generations of children to Native American folklore and culture. For two decades from 1930 to 1950 every summer she performed at the Indian Village at Jones Beach, New York. During that same time she appeared as a broadcast celebrity with the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City. Later in life she continued her storytelling and lectures at both the American Museum of Natural History and the Donnell Library of New York City. The National Dance Institute performed "Rosebud's Song" choreographed by Jacques d'Amboise at New York City's Madison Square Garden in her memory in 1994, two years after her death.
