FRANCIS ANDERSON, longtime Monticello mayor,
dies at 75

Francis Adkins "Andy" Anderson, 75, of Monticello, died October 15, 1991 in Kirby Hospital, Monticello. Memorial services were held at Presbyterian Church, Monticello with burial on Thursday at Monticello cemetery.

Mr. Anderson was born January 17, 1916 in Seymour, s/o Ellsworth Wilson and Nancy Adkins Anderson. He married Eleanor Miller September 7, 1940 in Monticello. She survives along with a son, James W. of St Louis MO; daughter, Jane Ellen Mohraz, Urbana; one grandson; brothers: Charles and Reuben, both of Monticello; sisters: Bess E. Sass and Cecilia Baker, both of Champaign; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, William; and two sisters: Eula Blank and Mary Madden.

Mr. Anderson was a member of Monticello First Presbyterian Church; worked as a bookkeeper for Monticello Grain until 1936 when he entered the University of Illinois. He graduated with a bachelor of science degree in accounting and was an auditor for Pure Oil Co. in Chicago; and then returned to Monticello in 1941 where he engaged in the frozen food locker business. He served in the U.S. Navy, operating over the southwest Pacific area.

In 1950, he joined the First State Bank of Monticello as an assistant to the president and was named vice president in 1951. In 1972, he was named prsident of the bank and served until 1981. He graduated from the School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin in 1963.

He was active in several civic organizations and served as mayor of Monticello for several years from 1949 until 1961. He was an active volunteer for Piatt County Services for Seniors. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Monticello.
