Matthias Riegel was born June 1704 in Medard, Germany and died August 1775 in Lower Saucon Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. He married (1) Maria ca. 1725 in Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany. She was born ca. 1704 in Germany, and died 1751 in Pennsylvania. He married (2) Sabina Catherine Leydi on April 11, 1757 in Tohickon Church, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. She was born 1709. Matthias Riegel came to America on Sept. 23, 1732 on the ship "Adventure", with his wife and brother, Jorg Willhelm. Later Jorg Wilhelm went by the name George William. Research done on this family in Salt Lake City Records, film #26043 pt. 1 page 76 Parish Register of Ranswiler, Germany. Also pages 50 and 52. He settled North of Philadelphia along the Saucon Creek in Northampton County Pennsylvania. The original Matthias Riegel homestead is located in the northern part of the borough of Hellertown, Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania Archives, Matthias naturalized on November 7, 1751. Sabina: From Jacoby Family History, page 96 and 97. Sabina Catherine Leydi or Leith, widow from New Brunswick, New Jersey who had a son Peter Leydi. Peter's descendants changed the Scotch Leydi to Leith, which in incorporated in the name of Leithsville, a village about 1 1/2 miles south of Hellertown. Peter was born in New Jersey, July 15, 1749. Matthias had no children by his second wife Sabina Catherine.
