A short life abruptly taken

On August 24, 2005 tragedy struck the small town of Hughes Springs with the sudden death of a local resident. Casey Hanes was taken from our community in a tragic and sudden accident at his place of employment, Trico Lumber Company.

According to local papers Casey was caught between a forklift and a load of OSB. He was transported by ambulance to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview where he died from extensive injuries.

Casey will be sorely missed by not only his family but many friends and co-workers. A copy of his obituary follows.

HUGHES SPRINGS – Services for Casey Hanes, 20, of Lone Star will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church of Hughes Springs with the Rev. Dan McGuire officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Pritchett, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home.

Mr. Hanes died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2005, at a Longview hospital. He was born July 23, 1985, in Longview and was employed at Trico Lumber Company, was a 2005 graduate of Hughes Springs High School and a member of Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Lisa and Frank Driggers of Lone Star; his father, Scott Hanes of Liberty City; his sister, Kadi Hanes of Lone Star; grandparents, Charles and Nancy Gage of Pritchett, Joyce Hanes of Gladewater and step grandmother, Betty Craddock of Lone Star.

The family will receive guests after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to a scholarship fund in his name at Hughes Springs High School.
