John William O'Donnell

WINAMAC - Services for John William O'Donnell, 86, of Winamac, will be held at 10:30 a.m. CDT Tuesday in St. Peter's Catholic Church.

He died at 4:05 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2006, in his residence.

Born Jan. 6, 1920, in Monon, he was the son of John E. and Helen M. Baker O'Donnell. He was married Sept. 25, 1942, in Winamac, to Dorothy I. Hein, who preceded in death Sept. 3, 1961. On May 4, 1963, he was married in Monterey, to Patricia A. Keller, who survives.

A 1938 graduate of Pulaski High School, Mr. O'Donnell sold farm and industrial equipment. He was a retired salesman. He also served in the 69th Infantry in World War II and took part in the Battle of the Bulge.

John was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Winamac and the Knights of Columbus Lodge #1561 in Winamac. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1728 and American Legion Post 71, both of Winamac.

He participated in activities at the Pulaski Human Services Senior Center in Winamac.

John loved sports, auto racing and gardening.

Also surviving are three daughters, Judith I. Heater and her husband, Vic, and Susan K. O'Donnell, all of Winamac, and Maureen S. Inman and her husband, Gary, Goodland; four sons, John W. O'Donnell Jr. and his wife, Carolyn, Fayetteville, Ark., James R. O'Donnell and his wife, Sharon, and Ryan W. O'Donnell and his wife, Michelle, all of Winamac, and George Patrick O'Donnell and his wife, Cheryl, Logansport; grandchildren, Amanda Lord, Carolyn Robinson, Leanne Behny, Laura Bucinski, Rebecca Kopka, Angela Compton, Lauren O'Donnell, Kaitlin O'Donnell, Alexandria Inman, Michael O'Donnell, Brian Crissinger, Mackenzie O'Donnell, Jeff Garbison and Jennifer Gebhardt; 19 great-grandchildren; one sister, Joan Page and her husband, Raymond, Monon; and two brothers, Hugh O'Donnell and his wife, Everel, Logansport, and Robert O'Donnell and his wife, Bonnie, Winamac.

Two sons, Joseph O'Donnell and Brian O'Donnell; one grandson, Sean O'Donnell; and one sister, Mary Margaret Weaver, also preceded in death.

Father John Mencsik will officiate at the services. Burial, with military graveside rites conducted by the VFW and American Legion, will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. CDT Monday at Frain Mortuary. The rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. CDT and a Scriptural wake service will be held at 6:30 p.m. CDT Monday at the mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pulaski Memorial Hospice and St. Peter's Catholic Church.
