On July 28, 2010, Walter passed from this life after a battle with leukemia and congestive heart failure. Walter was known to all his friends as ''Woody.'' He was born in Des Moines, Iowa to Mary and Merrill Woody on September 22, 1930. Woody lost his father at the age of one and spent his childhood summers on his Uncle Pat and Aunt Gail's farm. He graduated from North High School in Des Moines. He then joined the Navy and spent 4 years traveling all over Europe and Asia. He married Iona in 1954. He was a private pilot and flew locally and across the country. He loved his career as a Real Estate Appraiser and continued education in that area to obtain a SRA and MAI status. He initially retired from HUD in 1982 and began Woody's Appraisal Service. He truly was a self-made man. Woody and Iona traveled all over the country and Europe. He became obsessed with golf and they retired to Rio Vista Trilogy Golf Resort. He and Iona also spent many winters in Yuma Arizona playing golf with family and friends. Woody loved life. He danced with Iona and daughters at every opportunity. He had a unique and jovial character with an acerbic wit. His wicked laugh was infectious. He will be missed greatly by all that knew him. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Iona and his four loving children , grandchildren and great grand and mchildany other relatives and friends. A Catholic mass will be held in his honor at Our Lady of Assumption in Carmichael on August 21, 2010 at 10:45 am.
