Born Robert Ronald Harper, he attended Princeton University, where he performed in summer stock for two years. He later studied under famed acting teacher Lee Strasberg and served in the United States Navy. He also worked on the Broadway stage. His television debut came in 1955 in an episode of the series "Kraft Theatre." He would go on to appear in such series as "Wagon Train," "87th Precinct," "Wendy and Me," "The Jean Arthur Show," "Garrison's Gorillas," "Where the Heart Is," "Planet of the Apes," "Land of the Lost," "Another World," "Capitol," "Generations," "The West Wing," and "Cold Case." In 1971, he made his film debut in "The Wild Season." His later film credits included such titles as "The Soldier," "Below Utopia," "Freedom Strike," and "Pearl Harbor." He passed away of natural causes.
