Major League Baseball Player. For thirteen seasons (1983 to 1995), he was a pitcher with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago White Sox, St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies, and Montreal Expos. Raised in New Jersey, he attended Perth Amboy High School. Selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates during the 3rd round of the 1979 Amateur Draft, he made his Major League debut on July 23rd, 1983 and pitched in 15 games that year. In 1989 while in a Cardinals' uniform, he produced a career-high 16 wins, while leading the league with 201 strike outs. DeLeon had the unfortunate distinction of leading his league twice in games lost (19 in 1985 & 19 in 1990). In 1993 while with the White Sox, he experienced post season action and pitched in 2 games during the American League Championship Series against the Toronto Blue Jays. In 415 career regular season games, he compiled a 86 win, 119 loss record, with a 3.76 lifetime ERA, in 1,897 innings pitched. He died from cancer.
