Politician. Arthur Atkinson was a New Zealand barrister who served as a Wellington City Councilor and as a Member of Parliament. He worked in several law firms before starting his own, working alongside Charles Morison who also would later become a politician. From 1899 to 1902 Atkinson represented the City of Wellington electorate and from 1909 till 192 1 served as a Wellington City Councilor. He was noted for his involvement with the Forward Movement and the prohibition movement. He also served as the New Zealand correspondent for The Morning Post and The Times and also wrote articles for the 1922 edition of Encyclopædia Britannica. He was the husband of suffragette Lily Kirk and was the nephew of Sir Harry Atkinson.
