Military leader and politician. Don Miguel Creus y Camps was a notable military figure in 19th-century. He began his career as the Primer Comandante of the Isabela II Regiment No. 9 in 1853. By 1862, he had risen to the rank of Jefe (Chief) of the Cuarta Media Brigada. He further advanced in his military career, eventually attaining the rank of Colonel of Infantry. He also served as the Politico-military Governor of Cebu from 1864 to 1865.
While serving as governor of Cebu, he delegated Don Francisco Ortiz as a representative for the founding of the town of San Juan in Siquijor. Additionally, he commemorated Ferdinand Magellan by commissioning the construction of the iconic Magellan Shrine, which was completed in 1866. His passing occurred in Cebu in 1867.
