Historical figure. Esteban Volkov Bronstein, born Vsevolod Platonovich Volkov, was the grandson of Leon Trotsky, a prominent figure in the Russian Revolution and early Soviet Union. He was born to Zinaida Volkova, Trotsky's daughter, and her second husband, Platon Ivanovich Volkov. In 1940, when Volkov was 14 years old, there was a raid on Trotsky's villa, and he was shot in the foot but survived. After the assassination of Leon Trotsky in August 1940 in Mexico City, Esteban Volkov continued to reside in Mexico. He adopted the name Esteban, attended local schools, and pursued higher education. Esteban Volkov obtained a degree in Chemical Engineering from the National School of Chemical Sciences at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), specializing in hormone synthesis in the Mexican pharmaceutical industry, and contributed to the industrial production of contraceptive pills. Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to preserving and promoting the legacy of his grandfather, Leon Trotsky. Volkov authored books about Trotsky and actively participated in various activities associated with Trotskyism. He played a significant role in the preservation and protection of the Leon Trotsky House Museum in Mexico City, the very place where his grandfather resided and was assassinated. Esteban Volkov's contributions served as a vital link to the history and ideas surrounding Leon Trotsky, offering valuable insights into the life and thoughts of this influential figure from the Russian Revolution. Notably, one of Esteban Volkov's daughters, Nora Volkow, achieved prominence as a psychiatrist in her own right.
