Mrs. Henry Burt attended the funeral of her nephew, Gordon Goodell, at Salem, February 17. Gordon Goodell, son of John and Emma Goodell, was born at Grants Pass, March 2, 1888, and departed this life at Salem, Or., Feb. 15, 1909, aged 20 years, 11 months and 12 days. For about ten years he had lived in Alaska where his father held a responsible government position. Gordon had not been strong for several years and his failing health prompted his parents to return to Oregon. Even as the sickle which cut the weeds and grain lays low the beautiful flowers, that grim Reaper came and took this bright, intelligent young man, so full of promise, leaving the saddened home and a host of mourning friends. The beautiful floral offerings at the funeral were a mute testimony of the esteem given him and his parents. Mr. Goodell and his wife, formerly Miss Emma Benson, were for several years teachers in the schools of this county and have many friends here who sympathize with them in their deep sorrow.
