Kotonias, Gregory Theodore, 73, of Lexington, Massachusetts, died on
December 3, 2022, with his family at his side.

Greg was born in Hibbing, Minnesota on July 24, 1949, the son of Adeline (Bugliosi) and Efstathios Kotonias. He graduated from Occidental College in Los Angeles, California, and received his medical degree from University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis, Minnesota. During his career as a psychiatrist, Greg taught medical students and residents at Harvard Medical School, Tufts University School of Medicine, and Boston University School of Medicine. He was also an adjunct faculty member at the Berklee College of Music and served on the Executive Committee of the New York State Psychiatric Society and in the Assembly of the American Psychiatric
Association. Greg loved being a psychiatrist and he was humbled and honored by the trust his patients placed in him.

Greg found great enjoyment in art of all kinds, and he relished gifting artwork and sharing his ever-growing knowledge of art and art history with family and friends. For more than forty years, he studied and collected self-taught art, especially from the American South.

Greg was a deeply loving father to his daughters Jeanette Ariel and Cybele (and husband Patrick Hamm). As he reflected on his illness and impending death, he wrote, "there is so much we try to define our lives by, especially when we are getting ready to let go of life, and there is nothing that gives me more joy, happiness, and sense of purpose than being a father." Greg filled his daughters' childhood with countless adventures that instilled in them the same joy, happiness, and sense of purpose.

Greg is survived by his daughters Jeanette Ariel and Cybele (and son-in-law Patrick Hamm), grandchildren Robert McMaugh and Eleni Hamm,
brother James Kotonias, sister Carol Kotonias-Ray, and an incredible group of life-long friends that surrounded Greg with love and care at the end of his life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Cancer Support Community Massachusetts (CSC MA).
