E. Jim Kotonias, 83, died quietly, with his family at his side, on Tuesday, Nov. 4, in his home in Glendale, California, after a brief illness.

Jim grew up in Hibbing, and was a Hibbing High School and Junior College graduate and well known on the Iron Range. He was a graduate of the Michigan State School of Mines and was employed locally by both government and commercial interests until 1962, at which time the family moved to California. Jim was a civil engineer for the cities of Glendale and Burbank, California. Upon his retirement he formed a civil engineering company that was active in local engineering design efforts. Jim was a member of the Civil Engineering Society and active in the American Quarter Horse Association.

He will be remembered with great affection by his wife Adeline; his children, Jim, Greg, and Carol; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, two brothers; and two sisters, as well as his many friends and colleagues.
