In 1969, Stanley joined the staff at the First Baptist Church in Atlanta, becoming their Senior Pastor in 1971, a position he held for more than 49 years. Shortly thereafter, his sermons began to be broadcast on local television, and by 1977, Stanley had formed the "In Touch Ministries" to strengthen the local churches. In 1978, his "In Touch with Dr. Charles Stanley" program began to be televised on the Christian Broadcast Network, and his show eventually reached 300 television stations and 500 radio stations worldwide. Dr Stanley often based the sermons on his "30 Life Principles," a group of simple lessons that he created to guide people toward a Christian lifestyle. Stanley served two years as the President of the Southern Baptist Convention and authored more than 40 books, dispensing advice not only on Christianity but on parenting and family issues, finances, emotional difficulties, and personal relationships. In 2020, Dr. Stanley retired his role as the senior pastor of the First Baptist Church, and held the position of Pastor Emeritus until his death on April 18, 2023.
