Rugby Player. He was a New Zealand rugby union player who played for the All Blacks, the New Zealand national team, from 1905 until 1910. In 1905, he was selected to tour with the All Blacks during their first tour outside of Australasia. The line up became known as 'The Originals' and won thirty-four of the thirty-five tests in which they participated. The tour was significant because it cemented the name the 'All Blacks' and helped the team gain worldwide attention. Roberts also played for Wellington for eleven years. In 1910, Roberts captained the All Blacks during the New Zealand rugby union tour of Australia. He held the Wellington team's record of most appearances representing the team which was broken later by Ranji Wilson.
