"Was born in Mitchell, SD on January 6, 1948. He moved to Minnesota when the family relocated in 1951 and graduated from DeLaSalle High School. He obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame and later returned to school at the University of South Dakota where he earned a law degree and MBA. Mike was a gentle, quiet soul who preferred to observe life, but his rare comments were very perceptive and often laced with his dry humor. He was passionate and protective about important things - he was an early environmentalist and an early proponent of zero population growth. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, and long walks in the woods. After a successful business career he moved back to Minnesota to live in the Northwoods where he could enjoy the hiking and fishing, and the tranquility not found in cities. He was preceded in death by his son David Mikala; parents Joseph & Elizabeth Robbie, siblings David, Kathy and Kevin Robbie, and niece Mara Truly. The family owes a deep debt of gratitude to Christy Gibeau, and to the wonderful caregivers and staff at River Oaks and Allina Hospice who took such good care of Mike. Memorials preferred to an environmental or mental health organization. Private services have been held."
