DEATH PLACE: Dade, Florida, United StatesMIAMI -- A day after her death, Elizabeth Robbie, widow of Dolphins founder Joe Robbie and the woman who brought the Strikers to Fort Lauderdale, was fondly remembered by family and friends.

''Elizabeth Robbie was a loving and giving person who touched many lives,'' her nine children said in a joint statement issued on Wednesday. ''Those of us who knew and loved her are deeply saddened by her passing. Her memory will live on through the many people whose lives were touched by the warmth of her character and spirit.''

One such person is Dolphins coach Don Shula, who expressed sympathy for the Robbie family on Wednesday.

''This was a great loss for (the Robbies),'' Shula said.''Elizabeth was a wonderful person. She was very supportive, never an unkind word. We just had a great relationship over the period of time I've been down here since 1970. So I'm just sorry to hear of this happening, and my sympathy goes out to the family.''

A memorial service will be conducted today from 5 to 9 p.m. at Bess Kolski Funeral Home, 10936 NE Sixth Ave., Miami Shores. A memorial funeral mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Martha's Church, 9301 Biscayne Blvd., Miami Shores.

The family has yet to confirm Mrs. Robbie's cause of death. Family friend Rick Weaver, the voice of the Dolphins, reported on Tuesday that Mrs. Robbie died of complications from liver and stomach ailments.

The former Elizabeth Lyle met Joe Robbie at the University of South Dakota, and they were married in 1942. Over the next 20 years, the Robbies had 11 children, of which nine survive.

By 1965, when Joe Robbie landed the first American Football League expansion franchise in Miami, the Robbie family had established itself in Minneapolis, where Joe Robbie was a prominent attorney.
