The Warrior has moved on to the Land of the Clans.

It is with heavy hearts the family of W. Bruce Macdonald announces his passing. Bruce was born on Canada Day, July 1, 1928 at the Holy Cross Hospital to loving parents, William A. and Margaret Isabel Macdonald. Bruce's Father, "W.A." had come to Calgary in 1912 to practice law and was appointed to the Bench of the former Alberta Supreme Court. Bruce was the youngest of four children all raised on 11 Street in SW Calgary. With his older brother and two sisters Bruce attended Sacred Heart and Saint Mary's School. After graduating grade twelve Bruce travelled East to Nova Scotia to attend St Francis Xavier in Antigonish. He obtained a BSC in Geology and promptly returned home to Calgary to pursue a career in oil and gas. It was at this time that Bruce met a nursing grad from Holy Cross named Patricia Murphy. Bruce was smitten and he and Pat were married at St Mary's Cathedral on November 10, 1951. Together they lovingly raised five children, Margie (Rob) Kennedy, Cathy (Bob) Viccars, Bill (Corinne) Macdonald, Teresa (John) Carruthers and Coline (John) Vos. Bruce was an active member of the Glencoe Club for over fifty years and golfed at the Calgary Golf and Country Club as a junior member and later as a shareholder. He enjoyed a successful fifty year career in oil and gas. He and Pat built "Mac's Shack" on Gull Lake where the whole family enjoyed year round weekend retreats together. Bruce had 23 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren who all provided much comfort to "Gramps" upon the painful loss of his wife, Pat in June of last year. Bruce was also predeceased by his parents; his brother, Colin (Margaret) Macdonald, and his sisters Perry (Mike) Badyk, and Mary (Bob) Sinclair. The family cannot adequately express our gratitude to the staff and Management at Staywell Manor for the extra loving attention Bruce received throughout his residency there. We would also like to express our gratitude to Mom and Dad's family physician to the end, Dr. Doug Thorson. A Funeral Mass will be held for Bruce at on Tuesday September 13, 2022 at St Anthony's Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Sisters of the Precious Blood, or the Calgary Children's Foundation. Photos, memories and condolences may be shared with Bruce's family through www.evanjstrong.com.
