Artist. Elena Electa Arenal y Huerta was a Mexican mural painter, sculptor and poet whose work is famous for having captured social content in buildings in Mexico and the City of Holguín, Cuba. She was born within the Mexican artistic circle of the 20th century, as her parents were members of the League of Revolutionary Writers and Artists, so after residing for a few years in the Soviet Union, she entered the National School of Painting, Sculpture, and Engraving "La Esmeralda" and, later, to the Academy of San Carlos, studying plastic arts. In Cuba she carried out a prolific work that includes the sculptural murals "Canto a la Revolución," "Átomos y niños," and "Revolución Cubana;" as well as other murals in low relief such as "Maternidad" and "Palomas." Back in Mexico, she collaborated with Diego Rivera on the exterior murals of the Ciudad Universitaria Olympic Stadium. Later, she was part of the Siqueiros School workshop, participating in the realization of the murals of the Siqueiros Cultural Polyforum, where she died.
