Mutineer. Able-bodied Seaman and Barber on the HMS Bounty. He was the only sailor who tried to kill Commander Bligh during the mutiny on April 28, 1789. As Bligh and his followers were being set adrift, Skinner aimed his musket at their boat; he would have shot Bligh if another crewmate hadn't knocked the weapon out of his hands. In March of 1791 he was captured in Tahiti by a search party from the HMS Pandora. When the Pandora foundered off the Great Barrier Reef in August, Skinner and three other Bounty prisoners were left chained inside the brig; all went down with the ship.
