Archbishop of Canterbury. He served in this position from 1501 until his death. Little is known of his early life or exactly when and where he was born. Following his education at Exeter College in Oxford, England, he was appointed Lord Chancellor of Ireland and served as Bishop of Bangor from 1494 until 1500, then Bishop of Salisbury from 1500 until 1501. After the death of John Morton, he was elected Archbishop of Canterbury in April 1501. During his tenure as Archbishop, he was instrumental in negotiating the Treaty of Perpetual Peace (January 1502) between England and Scotland. Following his death, he was succeeded as Archbishop by William Warham.
