Mongolian Statesman. He served as both the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Mongolia People's Republic from January 26, 1952 to June 11, 1974, and the Chairman of the Presidium of the People's Great Khural from June 11, 1974 to August 23, 1984. He studied at the Irkutsk Institute of Finance and Economics in the Soviet Union before returning to Mongolia to teach finance in Ulaanbaatar. In 1939, he joined the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party and entered the government as deputy minister and later minister of finance. He quickly became the leader of the party in 1940 and held this position continually, except for a short period from 1954 to 1958, when he was briefly replaced by Dashiin Damba until 1984. He later also served both as the deputy commander in chief of the Mongolian army and as the deputy chairman of the Council of Ministers. In 1952, he became chairman of the Council of Ministers upon the passing of Khorloogin Choibalsan and went on to serve in this position until 1974, when he became the Chairman of the Presidium of the People's Great Khural. He assumed the head of state position in 1974, and his tenure would last until 1984 when he was ousted from power. He was in Moscow when he was ousted and remained there until he died in 1991.
