Robin was born in Haywood County on August 21, 1962 to her late parents, Charles "Arthur" and Elsie Geneva Gentry Snelson, but lived most of her life in Madison. With a passion for food and community, she started the Smoky Mountain Diner in Hot Springs in 1983. After 16 years in the restaurant business, she decided to take a position with Thermo Fisher Scientific where she has been employed for 22 years. She loved the people in her small town but her family was everything to her. Although she had no grandchildren of her own yet, she was a grandmother to all of her nieces, nephews and the neighborhood kids. She will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 36 years, Ed Wathen; sons: Daniel Wathen (Morgan) of Kingsport, TN, and Cameron Wathen (Kalah) of Marshall; brothers: Pee Wee Snelson of Hot Springs, Doug Snelson (Melissa) of Newport, TN, Mark Snelson (Cynthia) of Hot Springs, and Todd Snelson (Kenni) of Marshall; nieces and nephews: Cassie Franklin (William), Dakota Snelson, Brooke Rice (Austin), Walker Snelson, Kennedy Snelson, Ty Snelson, and Olivia Snelson; great nephew, Zack Franklin; special aunt Whop and cousin Charlene Davis; eight brothers and sisters in-law; many other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at 11:00 am at Fairview UMC Cemetery with Pastor Buddy Harwood officiating.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 30th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Madison Funeral Services.
