Malaysian Monarch. He reigned as the Sultan of Selangor from 1942 to 1945 during the Japanese occupation. Born Tengku Musa Eddin in Kuala Langat, he was the eldest son of Sultan Sulaiman. He would become Crown Prince of Selangor (Raja Muda) in 1920. However, he would be dismissed as crown prince by British Resident Theodore Samuel Adams in 1934 for alleged misbehaviour, accussing him of having a penchant for gambling. His younger half brother Tengku Alam Shah was instead proclaimed crown prince in 1936. After Tengku Alam Shah was proclaimed Sultan in 1938, he was crowned the following year while Tengku Musa Eddin presided over the ceremony. During the Japanese occupation of Malaya, the Japanese Military Governor of Selangor invited Sultan Alam Shah to King's House in Kuala Lumpur. After being told to surrender the regalia to his older brother, he was removed and Tengku Musa Eddin was proclaimed as the new Sultan of Selangor, taking the regnal name Sultan Musa Ghiatuddin Riayat Shah. After the war, he was dethroned upon the return of colonial power to Malaya in 1945. He was exiled to the Cocos Keeling Islands, but was brought back to Selangor a few months before he died in 1955.
