Professional Boxer. He was the National Golden Gloves boxing champion in 1979 for the 139 pound weight class. That same year, he was also the Pan Am Champion in the 139 pound weight class (Sugar Ray Leonard won the same award in the same weight class in 1975.) As a member of the U.S. National Boxing team, Steeples was killed in a plane crash near Warsaw, Poland only a year later.
