Madero's campaign began, Aguirre Berlanga, along with Pedro Antonio de los Santos, Ramón López Velarde, and other students, formed the Potosino Anti-Reelection Party. He attended the Constituent Congress of Querétaro as Deputy for the First District of Coahuila to draft a new constitution for Mexico, and when Mexico entered the constitutional regime, President Venustiano Carranza appointed him Secretary of the Interior, a position he held until, due to the Revolution of Agua Prieta, Carranza was forced to leave Mexico City, accompanied by Aguirre Berlanga, who slept in the same cabin where Carranza was assassinated in the early morning of May 21, 1920.
