Juanita “Jenny” Ramirez Chavez, 86, of Winkelman, joined her husband, Lino, in heaven on March 5, 2007.
She was born in Klondyke, Arizona, on June 24, 1920, where she spent her early childhood before moving with her family to the “Goat Ranch” along the Gila River north of Winkelman. She spent many years on the ranch living a rancher’s live, tending livestock and assisting in the care of her family.
She married Lino Chavez on Feb. 26, 1940 – a marriage that lasted 57 year – until Lino passed away on Dec. 28, 1997. The couple helped raise Jenny’s younger siblings upon the death of their mother.
Jenny and Lino had three children: daughters, Mary Helen Ramirez (Esteban) of Mammoth and Yolanda Marquez (Dennis) of Oracle and son, Lino, who died as a child. Jenny has four grandchildren, Maria Lisa Howard (Gary), Jenny Marie Beasley (Ed), Christopher Ramirez (Joan), and Rene Ramirez. She also has nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She also leaves behind siblings, Georga Barajas of Ontario, California, Dale Ramirez of Thatcher, Elvia Gomez of Thatcher and Angel Ramirez of Idaho; and many nieces and nephews.
Jenny focused her life on family and religion. As a devout Catholic, Jenny was a practicing Eucharistic Minister for St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hayden. She volunteered on a regular basis to bring Communion to those who were not able to attend church services. In addition, she generously volunteered her time and resources in any way she could to help the Parish and its members. She taught catechism and trained altar boys at the old Virgin de Guadalupe’s church in Winkelman prior to its demolition.
In addition to her family and church, her interest included participation in the Hayden Senior Citizens, gardening, sewing and quilting. Jenny was a very outgoing person, active in her church and she will be greatly missed by her loved ones and friends.
The Rosary was held Friday morning, March 9, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hayden followed by the Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Father Dale Branson. Interment was at Mountain View Cemetery in Hayden.
