Statesman, Prime Minister of Romania. Leader of the conservative party, he served from 16 November 1868 to 27 January 1870. Prior to becoming prime minister he was officer in the Russian army from 1837 to 1838. He then became police prefect of Bucharest from 1855 to1857. In 1857 he was deputy and mayor of Bucharest. He also served as a diplomat. Next, he served as foreign, interior justice and labor ministers. After leaving the post of prime minister he served as President of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies from 1871 to 1875 and then President of the Senate from 1877 to 1878 and 1894 to 1897. He is best remembered as a supporter of of national unity, state prosperity and stability.
