Writer. Born Leivick Halpern, he came to the United States in 1913 after escaping from exile in Siberia, Russia. Working for most of his life as a wallpaper hanger, he wrote poetry and drama in Yiddish and adopted his pseudonym to avoid confusion with the the poet Moyshe Leyb-Halpern. He is probably best known for his verse play "The Golem", published in 1921, a tale of a Jewish avenger based upon Yiddish legends of the supernatural.
