Poet, Writer, Journalist, Art Critic, Collector, and Humorist. Borghi co-founded the weekly satirical Il Guerin Meschino (1881-1921) with his brothers Giovanni Pozza and Francesco Pozza. He wrote texts on the history of ancient Milan and founded the Italian newspapers Penombra and L'Italia. Carlo Borghi was the son of Giulio Borghi. The Borghi family has ancient origins, but most recently have been textile industrialists in the town of Varano. Borghi studied at Parini High School and graduated from Law School in Pavia in 1871. During law school he was part of a collaborative group of young people who financed and founded the Literary Gym in Milan under director L. Perelli. Borghi participated in the Milanese Scapigliatura della Vita Nuova movement as an influential poet. The movement started in Milan in the 1860s and was an artistic and literary group that believed in nonconformism. They promoted ideas similar to those of Parisian artists during the same time period, which advocated against Italian romanticism in favor of French naturalism and realism. Scapigliatura is the free translation of the French term bohème (life as a gypsy).
