Born into a Jewish family, he had a fascination for comic books at an early age. After attending the High School for Industrial Arts, he landed a position as a staff artist with Timely Comics. During the course of his lengthy career, in addition to "Captain America", he contributed to "Space Squadron", "Young Allies" and "Marvel Mystery", as well as scores of other works. Bellman became a recognizable figure at national comic book conventions in addition to being an accomplished photographer.
