Korean Singer, Actress. Goo Hara was a member of the K-Pop girl group KARA, which debuted under DSP Media in 2007. Hara joined the group the following year, after one of the original members left. While in KARA, Hara was known for her cute appearance and her powerful voice. KARA was one of the most successful girl groups in South Korea at the end of the 2000s, achieving their first number-one single in 2009 with "Honey," immediately followed by a viral-trending music video for their song "Mister" that same year. The group's follow-up singles, "Lupin" (2010), "Jumping" (2010), "Step" (2011) and "Pandora" (2012) were also successful, and cemented their status as a high profile girl group. They debuted in the Japanese market in 2011 with the song "Jet Coaster Love," and within two years, had sold over a million copies, making them one of the fastest-selling Korean artists in Japan. After nine years, KARA disbanded in January 2016, and the members went their separate ways. In September of 2018, Hara made headlines after being physically and sexually assaulted by her then-boyfriend, who received a sentence of one year and six months in prison. Hara struggled with mental health following the assault, and attempted suicide in May 2019. In October 2019, her best friend, K-Pop singer Sulli, died by suicide, and many fans were worried for Hara's mental health. On November 24, 2019, Hara was found dead at her home in Gangnam, Seoul. Her death was ruled a suicide, and she was cremated and her ashes interred at the Sky Castle Memorial Park in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea.
