Rudolph “Chief Rudy” Belisle departed this life on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at the age of 87.

Rudolph Belisle was the forth child born to the late Redvers Bulava Belisle Sr. from Belize British Honduras and Velma Conerly Belisle, from Tylertown, MS.

Rudolph was born on March 17, 1932 in New Orleans, LA. He attended St. Paul Lutheran School and Lutheran Academy in Selma, AL. He attended Alabama A&M College where he became a member of Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity, Inc., and graduated in1957 with a degree in Social Studies. Rudolph also attended and graduated from Delgado Community College with an associate degree in Criminal Justice.

Rudolph was employed at Prentice High School as a History Teacher from 1960-1969 in Montevallo, AL. He was a fruit inspector at the Port of Orleans, an entrepreneur owning several local businesses, including the Fountain of Youth Bar and Lounge. The Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff Office employed him for 39 years, where he retired in 2012 as the Director of Corrections.

He met the love of his life, Lillian W. Belisle, at the Public Library on Loyola Ave., in New Orleans, La., where her beauty captivated him. They joined in Holy Matrimony on July 17, 1981. Rudolph and Lillian were married for 37 glorious years until his passing.

He enjoyed reading, math, history, boxing, playing dominoes, listening to his wife sing, and talking on the phone. He also adored his grand and great grandchildren with all of his heart. Rudolph was a lifelong servant of the Lutheran Church, where he was confirmed in faith as a child at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Rudolph was preceded in death by both of his parents: Redvers and Velma, his siblings: Redvers Jr, Dorothy B. Johnson, Velma B. Wright, William B. Belisle, Charles J. Belisle, and Myra Ella Soloman.

He leaves a lifetime of love, hope, and memories to his wife: Lillian W. Belisle. Children: Sonjia McCary (Ronnie), Dr. William Belisle, Cathy Gaddis, and Joe Belisle (Angelique). Grandchildren: George Yelder III (DeAnna), Veronica McCary, DeShawn Goode, Timothy Strong (Jesssica), William R. Belisle, Taylor Gaddis (La’Starshia), Rudi G. Williams (Eric), Bijon Belisle, and Devin Belisle. Great Grandchildren: Patience, Lyric, Noah and Daniel Yelder; Francina, Jordan and Dylan Goode; Timothy Strong Jr.; Jaden Whiting and Nola Grace Gaddis. Godchild: Gwendolyn Smith. Brother In-Laws, Milton Williams and Jimmy Williams III (Alice); Sister In-Laws, Mildred W. Smith, Ida W. Blount, Doretha W. Dunn (Frantz), Ann W. Coleman, and Josephine W. Dennie (Ronald).

Lifelong friends: Lawrence Martin and Elvira Henry. Special friends: Charles C. Foti Jr., Chief Earl Weaver, Colonel Wilfred Washington, Rev. Rufus Bonds, Elder Edward Hulbert, Cynthia L. Rehman, Dr. Nunez Juarez, and Maurice Durio. He also leaves behind a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Relatives of the family, also pastors, officers and members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church are invited to attend a Wake Service in Friday, May 17, 2019 at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave., NOLA from 5:00 Pm – 7:00 PM.

A Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1625 Annette St., NOLA on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 10:00 AM. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM. Interment: Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Arrangements by D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave. NOLA.
