Writer, author, poet, and essayist. Born Johannes Jacobus Willebrordus Zwagerman, he is best remembered for his poems and novels. He was also taught by novelist Oek de Jong. His second book, "Gimmick!" was adapted into a play in 1989. Likewise, in 1993, his third book "Vals Licht" was adapted into a movie by Theo van Gogh. His first poetry collection was published in the book "Langs de doofpot" in 1987. Moreover, the 2005 collection "Roeshoofd hemelt" was awarded the Awater Poetry Prize. Plus, it was even printed four times. Furthermore, among his essay works are "Het vijfde seizoen" and "Pornotheek Arcadië."Additionally, he was a columnist for the de Volkskrant and NRC Handelsblad. Zwagerman also appeared on the television programs "Zomergasten" and "De Wereld Draait Door." In December 2012, he moved from Amsterdam to Haarlem, where he resided until he took his life in 2015.
