Roman Catholic Saint. Eighteenth Pontiff from 230 to 235 of the III century AD. He is remembered as the first resigning Pope in the History of the Church of Rome. This decision was the consequence of the irremediable contrast with the figure of the antipope Hyppolitus, and had as epilogue the deportation and his martyrdom by order of the Emperor Maximus the Trace.
