Born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Islas Canarias, Betancor studied in Spain and the United States, and then began his career as an assistant of the motion picture director Mario Camus. Betancor is particularly remembered for his films "Valentina" (1982), "1919. Crónica del Alba" (1983) and "Mararía" (1998). Also he directed "Una Escultura" (1972), "Dos Setenta Setenta Cincuenta y Tres. Último Trabajo" (1972), "Sentados al Borde de la Mañana con los Pies Colgando" (1978) and one segment in the colective film "¡Hay Motivo!" (2004). His work for television include several episodes of "Paisaje con Figuras." Betancor was awarded posthumously with the International Award of the Cinema Festival of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. He died in Madrid.
