Charles N. Carter, a Vancouver resident for the last 47 years, died Friday in a Portland hospital of complications related to heart surgery. He was 71.

A private family service will be held. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Vancouver.

He was born July 21, 1920, in Laverne, Okla. Mr. Carter was a millwright for Carborundum Co. in Vancouver for 29 years before retiring in 1978.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel M. Carter of Vancouver; a son, Jerry Lynn White of Vancouver; daughters, Afton Carter and Addie Lee Corriveau, both of Vancouver; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family suggests remembrances be contributions to the American Diabetes Association. Oregonian, Tuesday, December 3, 1991
