The son of Johann Heinrich and Gertrude (Ritter?) Freckmann, Heinrich brought his family from Prussia to Milwaukee in January of 1866.

In his 1881 work, History of Milwaukee, Wisconsin,** , historian Frank Flower included this biographical note:

HEINRICH FRECKMANN--tailor, No. 617 Reservoir avenue. He was born May 13, 1823, in Prussia. He learned this trade, when a boy, from his stepfather, and has always followed it. He came to Milwaukee in 1866. He was married to Elizabeth Elshoff, November 5, 1850. She was born in Prussia, March 10, 1825, and died January 23, 1866, leaving five children-Bernhard, Herman, Gertrude, Theodore and Casper. He was married a second time to Mrs. Herman [sic.], in 1870. She was born in Saxony. She has one son by a former marriage, Charles, by name.

Apart from a few discrepancies regarding his subsequent wives, it provides a brief and accurate summary.

Henrich’s second wife was actually Augusta, the daughter of Franz Albrecht and Dorothea Schwemmin (?). Married at Milwaukee on 28 Sep 1867, they appear to have had one son, Henry, prior to their divorce in 1870. Their 1867 marriage record names Heinrich's parents and lists his birth place.

Neither Heinrich or his sons Theodore and Casper can be found on the 1870 census. However, his children Herman, Bernhard, and Gertrude were enumerated in the Milwaukee boarding house of Ernst Kruecke. All three were shown as working at the time.

Heinrich’s third and last wife was Catherine Schneider, the widow of Frederick Hamann (not Herman). They are not known to have had any children together. Their 1871 marriage record also names Heinrich's parents and his place of birth.

Heinrich/Henry was listed in Milwaukee’s 1877 directory at 617 Reservoir Avenue, which was still his residence in 1880, according to that year’s census.

Neither he or his wife Catherine can be found on the 1900 census. An abstract of death record lists him as a tailor, and provides the date of his burial here at Union Cemetery. The full record lists provides his birth and death dates, and indicates he died of bronchopneumonia at his residence, the rear unit of 906 Walnut Street.
