Statesman, Constitutional President of the Republic of Ecuador. He served from September 1 , 1905 to January 15, 1906. Prior to becoming president he was Councilman of Guayaquil, Minister for Economic Affairs, Senator for the province Guayas and Vice President of the Senate. Amidst internal political turmoil, he is best remembered for his goals for the country including respecting political rights, reorganizing the National Treasury, directing foreign policy, and promoting agriculture and commerce. He was eventually overthrown by a coup d'état organized by Eloy Alfaro and was forced to leave office.
