William was living with his mother and sister when he enlisted in the Marines 15 March 1967, at a recruiting office in Newark.
Arriving in Vietnam 6 October 1967, William was assigned to Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. The battalion was participating in Operation Napoleon/Saline with Lima Company operating in the
vicinity of Ky Lam, 6 kilometers south southeast of Gio Linh Village, when the Marines came under hostile sniper fire. David died as a result of a gunshot wound to the head from hostile sniper fire along with nine other Marines.
Survived by his mother, Kathleen Russo and his sister; Frances Russo, all of 427 1st Ave, Elizabeth, NJ.
His father; Pasquale Russo had died in 1961.
